View Full Version : Roller Coaster Tycoon II

Along with The Sims, RollerCoaster Tycoon has appeared regularly on the North American sales charts for the past few years. The SimCity-style gameplay combined with the inherent fun of designing an amusement park has drawn in millions of players, and Infogrames hopes that the upcoming sequel, appropriately named RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, becomes just as successful. As such, the game won't be significantly different from the original in terms of core gameplay, but it will feature a host of new scenarios, a refined graphics engine, and some slight tweaks to the gameplay that should make the game a little easier to get into.

If it gets the fan support #1 did I am sure it will do well :-)
If it is as good as #1 I'll buy the thing, It kept the kids quiet for ages..

RCT 2 appears to be no different (so far, as far as i have read) than RCT 1... just an improved construction method. The preview i read in PC Gamer said that it still looked very much like the first, doesn't really offer Too much new stuff... but hell, i'll be buying it. I loved the first one :D

I thought RCT1 was a really good game, I installed it again the other day and its still as good, so I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Yeah graphically there is not much improvement over the first, but there should be a lot more options with building than the other releases. Definitely something to check out. I wish EA continued their SimThemePark series, it was cool to see the rides in 3d...

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? it was the biggest piece of c**p ever invented? buggy as hell, zero gameplay, looked rubbish, no replay value, terrible ride design....i was so goddamn annoyed when i bought it it was worsde than the original!!!!!!
RCT is the best game ever designed no doubt about it! If the original were to be sold now, as the latest thing, it would still be number one in the charts all these years later.

I much preferred the original Theme Park over all the "3D" sequels. Games like that don't work in full 3D IMO.
The only problem is that the original Theme Park runs far too quickly on modern PCs.
I've never played Rollercoaster Tycoon either. Judging by the replies on this thread, I might have to check it out, though :)

The first one never grabbed my attention and this one looks no different. From the screenshots and the previews I have read, you would be better of saving your money. It looks like a very poor cash-in to me.

I have to agree. The graphics kinda suck, but the game is addicting and lots of fun ! I've been playing it for a couple of days now and I'm still trying to finish the first scenario (Crazy Castle).
I could use some tips on how to finish it :). I have about 1000 people in the park and it's the 2nd year. The problem is I don't have enough space to build new rides and stuff so people are leaving.

JoKer: I used to have the same problem with running out of space on the first one, what you do is build the little coasters (Like the mini rollercoaster) on the ground, then when you have enough money, raise a bit of land and build the bigger wooden coasters above the mini coasters, that way you can practically have a 2 story theme park plus the excitement rating of your coasters will skyrocket if you build custom coasters that loop and twist through other coasters...
There are other benefits to building your coasters above ground, for example people won't have to wait for the car to make it up the initial life, they'll get to the first drop quickly. You can then build your coaster, make it follow the drops and when you get to the bottom create a second station there and place the exit on it, place the entrance on the top station. That way the people will get in at the very top, won't have to wait for a life to carry them up, then the people will get out at the bottom and let the cars ride up the life empty. You'll get an extra bit of excitement rating because the people won't have that little bit of wait time while the car rides up the lift.
By the way: Has anyone figured out how to change the admission price for the park itself? I can't seem to find this option anywhere and it's not where it used to be in the first game...

hodzip... nope.
after playing this series to its death and back, i've found the best way to make a profit is to charge per-ride. you can get away with extortion by charging $6-7 for the best rides, 2.50-3 for the thrill rides ($7.50 for the go-karts) and bump up the food a little.
(US currency in the game)

Mmh... Looks like it's restricted for certain scenarios, you must rely on ride ticket prices for the first one. And you must rely on park ticket prices and shops for the third one.
That kind of sucks. :p
I used a little of both, charging a park entry fee and for the rollercoasters and tracked rides, with all the smaller rides running for free. I just adjust the price 3 dollars above from the point where the people stop saying that the ride is a really good value otherwise noone will want to ride it- Especialy if the ride is older than 9 months.

Thanks for the tip Hodzip :)
By the way, how do you get the 'cleaners' to clean a path ? I select the blue icon, click on the ground so they know what places to clean and close the window. But all they do is walk forward and backward (doing what they want). They don't follow my orders :) :(
Pretty annoying 'cause people are throwing up like crazy :D

hmm.. havent noticed the new 'ride raising/lowering' feature that im pretty sure i heard something about... unless it reffers to the auto stilts function...and the 'queues atach themselves to every damn bit of pah they come across' problem is still there... still its fun having 4 layers of rides and walkways :-P

I also will buy it when it comes out, because i liked the first one very much. But it would be better if ther e would be a slow mode and a fast mode in the game.

I just downloaded the first game off KaZaA, and I'm hooked :) Much better than Theme Park, not least because it actually runs at a reasonable speed even on the faster machines.
