Unfortunately, not many new games will run well if at all with that proc, so you'll have to stick to the golden oldies.

A lot of classic FPS's should run on your PC... Quake, Unreal, maybe Q2 and UT even.

i'm writing this on a p2-300, 192mb ram, matrox g200 millennium - and will play warcraft 3 in a minute!
of course, it's only running at acceptable speeds @ 640x480 and without all the details - but hey, at least it's playable at all.

I use a simialr spec machine as a DVD/ Games machine with a ATI Radeon card with video out. At TV resolutions (800x600) game play is perfectly acceptable with all but the most demanding games. With older systems, it is the video card that makes all of the difference, perhaps a cheap (2nd hand) video card would give a great improvement on performance with very little outlay.

you could run linux on it and make a small web server....

quite a lot of stuff will run on reduced detail at 800*600, but it depends on what you are prepare dto give up in visuals for gameplay.

Get yourself a gf2mx400 (or better) they cost about $50 here and you can play a whole lot of new games (i played max payne on my 400mhz without any troubles , ofcourse on the lowest resolution but still) im not sure about the radeon though.

i guess rpg is the stuff to go for, plus i really like them. so guess i'll check out some of those i haven't played yet, like icewind dale, planescape torment ...etc. maybe i should try max payne at low res, too... i remember it not working on my old video card, and i haven't tried it on my new radeon yet...

I have a cel300 with a 32mb GeForce2 and I can play most games, such as GTA3, Max Payne etc. Just tone down the detail and you should be fine.

Plus, I used to play HL, UT etc on my PII266 with 4mb Voodoo1 (In fact it still gets used for UT langames) and as long as everything is turned down it looks and runs fine. I don't see the need for all the eyecandy if you are playing the game to play the game (if you know what I mean)

I also have a PII 400 MHz and 256 RAM. I used to have an TNT1 GFX card, but I changed it to a GeForce 2 64MB. Before the change the most I could play a game at was 800x600, with my new card I could go upto 1024x768 and I got faster speeds than at 800x600 with my old card.

I can play lots of game well on my comp, here's a list of games you should consider playing. I haven't played any recent games other than GTA3, so the list is definatly outdated.

i have a 400 p2 with 384 megs of ram
Geforce 2 with 32mb ram

I can run any new game thats out, just doesnt run the fastest or best detail in resolution and optimization..

I learned that if u upgrade your video card drivers to current ones, at least with geforce cards, games run a lot smoother! Especially Warcraft 3, i noticed scrolling through the screen was a pain, till i updated the drivers and it all runs fairly smooth..

I hope this helps some! :)

GTA3 works excellent after I installed my GeForce2 Ti 64 MB. It was somewhat playable with my TNT1, but it lagged SEVERLY! Driving in a police car full speed slowed it down so much becuase the CPU was concentrating on graphics instead of loading the map and reaction times. When I turned MP3's on, it got twice as laggy and the music skipped. Now with my new graphics card my computer still has a little more life in it. Best $60 I ever spent. I won't have to upgrade again for maybe another 6 months to a year.

First-person shooters are going to be the biggest problem on old hardware, but even some of the older ones are worth playing and with the modding community that developes around the good ones (eg, HL, UT) you can keep getting new material for them. If they're your cup of tea, then a bunch of strategy games would work well too - The Sims, SimGolf, Railroad Tycoon II, and so on forever. Also, I'm not certain but I'd say something like Medieval might run fine - I'm playing it at the moment on my Celeron 667 with a TNT2 and have absolutely no issues at 1024x768. And, as other people have suggested, most RPGs will do reasonably well - Neverwinter Nights might be one exception, especially in large areas, but some of the older Bioware and Black Isle games would be fine and will occupy plenty of hours.

I'd say go with some good old legacy FPS game (UT, Q2/3, HL and it's mods), definitely some great RPG stuff (Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Fallout), adventure games should run just fine (Monkey Island (the new one), Longest Journey, Grim Fandango) and finally, can't go wrong with THPS2

hope this helps!

GTA 3 should run well using the latest Radeon Catalyst drivers (2.2 I think..) and that much RAM. (more would be even better though) I play Mechwarrior 4 on one of my gaming boxes with a similar setup. Also Motocross Madness 2 and Supreme Snowboarding (AKA BoarderZone) should run well. I love that snowboarding game on any machine by the way, but if you havent tried it on a 2gig+ PC your missin a helluva ride!

Driver is great fun at lower MHz too, so dont miss that one. Oh ya and Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed should look great on that machine too. It might play Empire Earth too, but if not that then Age of Empires 1 or 2 would be good for an RTS fix.

Im sure I will think of 20 more once I stop typin, but those are some of my all time favorites.
