Well..I'm using this MS Explorer optical mouse and..somehow for no reason the light under the mouse just went off..and I can't use the mouse
I have to pull the USB plug off and put it back again..if I'm lucky my XP will recognize it and let me use it but most of the time it just say unrecognize hardware
Also if I restart my com will also solve this problem as well..but it's really annoying.
So anyone ahve any idea how to fix this?? other than throw it away and buy a new mouse :D

All their mice come with a PS2 converter. Try using it and put the mouse on the PS2 slot.
I had problematic mouse controls till I moved over to the PS2 slot. Might fix your problem...

you should give ms a call as there was a recall on optical mice. they will replace it for free. all you need is the product id number on the bottom of the mouse. i got my replacement in about a week. but i forgot the number to call. sorry:(

Microsoft Optical Mouse Owner:
As you are aware, Microsoft® mouse products enjoy a reputation for dependability and reliability backed by one of the best Limited Warranty offers in the industry. Microsoft has received reports that a small percentage of IntelliMouse® Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical and Wheel Mouse Optical mouse products have stopped working or have begun to work intermittently after a period of normal use. Symptoms of this condition may include the cursor not moving, mouse buttons not responding or the red tail-light not illuminating. It is also possible that this condition may cause the computer or an open program to stop responding (hang) during or immediately following mouse movements. (If your computer stops responding or hangs without moving the mouse, this is unrelated to the condition described herein.)
If you live in the United States, and your IntelliMouse Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical or Wheel Mouse Optical should stop working or begin to work intermittently after normal use, Microsoft will replace the mouse free of charge under the terms of the product’s Limited Warranty. If your mouse is now outside the Limited Warranty Period but stopped working within the Limited Warranty Period, Microsoft will still replace it free of charge, provided that you send in the coupon below and required proof of purchase within 90 days from the date of this notice. If your Limited Warranty Period has expired, Microsoft will extend it for 90 days from the date of this notice. If you have previously contacted Microsoft Product Support with regard to your mouse and are no longer eligible for no-charge personal support, Microsoft will waive any fee for paid personal support related to this condition. To receive your replacement mouse, if your current mouse is not working properly:
Print and fill out a coupon (downloadable below) with your name, address, phone number and Product ID number printed on the bottom of your mouse.
Enclose proof of purchase. The eligible forms of proof of purchase include:
A copy of your store receipt. Please write the Product ID number on the receipt.
A copy of your credit card receipt or monthly statement. Please write the Product ID number on the receipt or statement.
The original label from your box containing the bar code. Cut it from the box and enclose it. Please write the Product ID number on it.
A photocopy of the bottom of your mouse showing the Product ID number. If the Product ID number is not clearly legible, please write in on the copy.
You only need to send one of these forms of proof of purchase.
Mail the filled out coupon and your proof of purchase to:

I spent $30 for an optical one, this week, but
I repacked it, and sent it back for a refund.
For half the price, I decided on a second Logitech
wheel mouse ... it's smoother than an optical one,
and surely more durable.

thanks for the nfo. my mouse has been doing that for almost a year and i thought i might of dropped it or something and that is the reason. Just to let you know if you use it for to long it gets real bad right now i have to smack it a few times then replug it in to get the thing to work.

Never had problems with my Logitech optical mouse so far (one of the first ones) - so I better stick with it. And it's somewhat cheaper than Intel's, too!

the MS mouses do have a slight problem ... with extended use the wire where it goes into the body can become weakened and cause problems...... but never had a problem with mine yet .....
