View Full Version : Star Wars Galaxies beta test.
Anyone here part of the beta test, if so how is it going so far? about a week ago I got an email saying that I have been accepted to participate in the beta 3 test. at first I was all excited, but then I find out you have to pay $5.95 US for the cd. I live in canada so thats about $8-9 here, not too bad. but then there's a $14 shipping charge. wtf. total would come out to be about $30 CND. that's like half the price of a retail game here. im just wondering if this is worth it. It's arleady the third beta, so it's not like im one of the first people to be trying out this game. i dunno, im feeling kinda skeptical. like they want to make money off the beta testers or something. since when did it cost $14 to ship a cd. I ordered dvds from the states with shipping costs being less than $5.

in most beta programs you can dl the game from a secure site, mostly when the game you are going to test is a MMORPG and you are supposed to be on a broadband connection...

but not on SWG , you HAVE to buy it .. its part of the beta process.
I also got that email about testing but i dont feel like spending that much money on just a beta, id rather just wait for the finished thing.
Anyway i have some friends thats bought it anyway and they say the game is cool as hell , great "starwars feeling" and all.

ditto, i'll buy heh
beta for this game is gonna be going on for like another 6 months... its suffering from Diablo II Syndrome, which is quite common for games these days. Basically, it gets pushed further and further back, and no one really ends up buying the damn thing cos everyone played it during beta and realised it sucks.
I preordered the collectors ed of it, but i cancelled it last week when i found out that SOE refuse to comment on release date (which is where i get the estimate of 6 mnths from) and stuffed if im gonna wait, i'll just go play something else.. shit everything failing i'll reopen my EQ account

Found a review over at Guru3d.com

Star Wars Galaxies (referred to as SWG from here on out) is a culmination of false hope, empty promises, and over hyped delusions of grandeur. What could have amounted to a fantastic world in where you can take the role of a hero in the Star Wars Universe that a lot of us have grown to love through the old movies, or even the new; turns out to be an utterly rushed disappointing disaster of epic scale in the MMOG genre that leaves the player paying $14.99 a month for the developers to finish the game they had hyped oh so many years ago. As far as I am concerned, this title will go down in history as the worst MMOG launch ever known to mankind.

I think I'll hold off on this one. Heard nothing but bad reviews so far. Maybe a few months down the road they'll have enough add-ons and extras to make it worthwhile.

i played in beta3 and at first was in love with the little things about the game, the character creation process, walking in the city to see little jawas arguing in a huddle with stormtroopers casually marching every which way, the sound and sight of tie-fighters screaming over the city... and then the reality of an unfinished game settled in.
there are plenty of negative reviews out there, but i think it's kind of unfair. sure the game has a good number of problems, but the devs have litteraly ironed out over thousands of problems since beta3, and the producer SOE forced them to release an unfinished game, hence all the negative reviews.
my opinion is the game will definately be worth it in about 6months - to a year, once i'm able to upgrade to at least a 128mb gfx card and other hardware upgrades, and once they iron all the major bugs and implement the expansion pack that includes space exploration and vehicles in general.
the game has ALOT of potential, and it will take more time to get there unfortunately, but just think of it right now as everyone is playing the game (and complaining), they are still in essense beta testing even tho they are still paying for it. kind of cheap but that's SOE. so i'll be checking it out later on down the road when i think this game will truly live up to it's expectations.... finally.

i had heard so much hype about this game and then all i have heard since the beta releases is how it has been terrible and that is unfair
SOE made it release way before it was ready to be released and after all the bugs get ironed out which will probably be in maybe 4-6 months then this will be a great game
just wait for maybe a few more months because almost all MMORPG games these days have problems like this maybe not this many but most have problems similiar to this. so give it a while and youll all enjoy it
